Hakeem Baba Ahmed Emerges PRP National Chairman


The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has elected Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as its new National Chairman during the party’s National Convention held in Abuja on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

At the convention, Sunny Kanu emerged as the National Secretary after his rival, Abdulhakeem Abdullahi Ago, stepped down ahead of voting, paving the way for his emergence.

Party officials disclosed that other National positions were uncontested and were subsequently affirmed by consensus, a development leaders described as a demonstration of unity as the party prepares for future political contests.

The newly formed National Working Committee (NWC) includes representatives from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with several key roles filled through consensus arrangements.

Among those elected alongside Baba-Ahmed are Buhari Haruna as Deputy National Chairman (North), Haruna Nanven as National Organising Secretary, Patrick Ochuka as National Financial Secretary, and Yunusa Bayawo as National Treasurer.

Others are Musa Buba as National Auditor, Vincent Danladi Okudu as National Legal Adviser, Ozu Important Fredrick as National Youth Leader, and Muhammed Bello Ishaq as National Publicity Secretary.

The convention also affirmed Rakiya Sani as National Woman Leader and Abdullahi Abisabo as Director of People with Disability.

Further reflecting zonal balance, the party announced Abubakar Hamanjoda as Assistant Vice Chairman (North East), Abba Namatazu as Assistant Vice Chairman (North West), Ifeanyi Peter Okafor as Assistant Vice Chairman (South East), and Olajide Wolimoh as Assistant Vice Chairman (South West).

However, several positions, including Deputy National Chairman (South), Director of Policy Research and Documentation, and some assistant national offices, remain vacant.

Party insiders said the consensus-driven process highlighted growing internal cohesion within the PRP as it works to reposition itself for greater national relevance.

Delegates from across the country attended the convention, which party leaders described as a major step in the organisation’s restructuring and leadership renewal.
