The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue State Chapter, has explicitly stated that it has not endorsed any politician or political party for the 2027 elections.

They urged the public to disregard rumours suggesting otherwise, maintaining a neutral stance on the upcoming political contests. Addressing the State Executive Council meeting of the association at its Secretariat in Makurdi, Deputy Chairman of CAN, Rev. Jonathan Terwase Ugbede, warned against dragging CAN into politics.

Rev. Ugbede explained that CAN would continue to pray for the political class and the traditional rulers, among other members of the society, adding, however, that any politician who wishes to approach the as-sociation for prayers should feel free to do so.

The Deputy CAN Chairman, who disclosed that, the primary responsibility of the Church is to pray has assured that the Benue Church would not go political but remain committed and united in the service of the Lord who crowns kings.

According to him, “a lot of people were agitating for elective positions who deserve prayers from the church but insisted that CAN should not be considered a platform for politicians, but the church would never be partisan.”

While calling on the Church in the state to remain supportive and prayerful to enable the State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, to succeed, the Deputy Chairman emphasised that the governor has executed projects that have a direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
