BDAN appoints Oluwayemisi Olorunshola as new chairman


The Bank Directors Association of Nigeria has announced the appointment of Dr Oluwayemisi Olorunshola as Chairman of its Board of Directors, following the retirement of Mr Mustafa Chike-Obi upon the completion of his tenure.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to The PUNCH over the weekend.

Olorunshola currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wema Bank Plc and brings to the role over 25 years of cumulative experience spanning supply chain management, business leadership, and corporate governance. She has over 15 years of experience in a multinational organisation and more than a decade of experience as a business manager, with deep expertise across business and production planning, procurement, distribution, import and export operations, and logistics services.

She was appointed to the Board of BDAN in January 2023 as a director and has since demonstrated a strong commitment to the association’s mandate of strengthening bank governance and promoting sustainable leadership within Nigeria’s banking sector.

Olorunshola holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education and economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, the United Kingdom; and a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University, the United States of America.

She was described as a passionate advocate for education and sustainable enterprise and has authored a widely referenced publication on small business sustainability strategies, published in the Journal of Functional Education (FEAcademia) and indexed on ProQuest and Academia.edu. Her work has been cited by several scholars in the field of business sustainability.

She is a Fellow of the International Institute for African Scholars and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Olorunshola is actively involved in community development initiatives and civic engagements, where she contributes meaningfully to social and economic advancement.

Speaking on the appointment, the Chief Executive Officer of BDAN, Adebukola Orenuga, stated, “Dr Olorunshola is a principled and accomplished leader with significant board and business experience. She has consistently demonstrated dedication to the vision and mission of the association.

We are confident that under her leadership, BDAN will continue to strengthen its strategic impact and advance its mandate of representing and promoting the interests of bank directors and banks in Nigeria.

“The association also extends its sincere appreciation to Chike-Obi for his exemplary leadership, dedication, and invaluable contributions during his tenure as chairman. We thank our member banks for their continued trust and look forward to our next chapter of growth.”
