Beer Sales Boost International Breweries’ Revenue by 27%

International Breweries Plc recorded a rebound in its financial performance in the 2025 financial year, as revenue rose by 26.8 per cent to N620.1bn, from N489.0bn in the corresponding period of 2024, driven largely by improved beer sales volumes, better pricing, and stronger market demand.

The revenue growth reflects a gradual recovery in consumer spending and increased patronage across the company’s beer portfolio.

In its profit and loss statement for the year ending 31 December 2025, the cost of sales rose to N415.7bn, up 16.3% from N357.6bn in 2024, driven largely by higher expenses for raw materials, packaging, energy, and logistics. Despite this, revenue growth exceeded the rise in costs, leading to a notable improvement in profit margins.

As a result, gross profit surged 55.6 per cent to N204.4bn, compared with N131.4bn in the previous year, highlighting improved operational efficiency and better cost absorption.

In the period under review, administrative, marketing, and distribution expenses rose 18.2 per cent to N128.2bn, from N108.5bn in 2024, reflecting increased spending on brand visibility, route-to-market expansion, and higher personnel and distribution costs.

The brewer posted a profit before tax of N85.1bn, marking a major turnaround from a loss before tax of N111.8bn recorded in 2024. After accounting for income tax expenses of N21.8bn, profit for the year stood at N63.3bn, compared with a loss of N113.6bn in the previous year, underscoring a decisive return to profitability.

Earnings per share improved significantly, turning positive at 38 kobo, from a loss of 116 kobo in 2024.

The company’s balance sheet also strengthened. Total assets increased 1.9 per cent to N741.5bn, from N727.9bn in 2024, supported by increased investments in property, plant, and equipment, which rose to N339.8bn, from N287.6bn, reflecting ongoing capacity expansion and operational upgrades.

Cash and cash equivalents climbed sharply 42.8 per cent to N155.7bn, compared with N109.0bn a year earlier, significantly improving liquidity. Trade and other payables declined 21.5 per cent to N189.4bn, from N241.1bn, easing pressure on short-term obligations.

Retained losses narrowed to N178.6bn, representing a 26.2 per cent improvement from N241.9bn in 2024, further strengthening shareholders’ funds. Consequently, total equity rose 14.1 per cent to N512.2bn, from N448.9bn in the prior year.

International Breweries ended the year with no outstanding borrowings or overdrafts, reinforcing its improved financial stability.
