Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has shared her perspective on why women should experience living alone before tying the knot, rather than moving directly from their parents’ home into their husband’s house.
Speaking on a recent episode of the That’s What She Said podcast, Aladese explained that living independently before marriage helps women understand themselves better and prepares them for the realities of married life.
According to the actress, women who have had the chance to live on their own are less likely to encounter surprises or regrets once married.

“A lot of women transition straight from their family’s home to their husband’s place. They often haven’t figured out what they truly like or how to handle certain habits their spouse may have. That can be shocking and lead to regrets,” she said.
Aladese added that experiencing life alone allows women to discover their preferences, set boundaries, and determine what behaviour they can or cannot accept.
“Living on your own gives you the chance to know yourself and prepare for marriage. Without that experience, everything in the new home can feel overwhelming, and regrets can creep in,” she concluded.
