Benin Launches e-Passport Platform for Citizens Abroad

Seamfix, a digital identity and biometric solutions provider, in partnership with the government of the Republic of Benin, has launched ePass, a self-service digital passport renewal platform designed for Beninese citizens living abroad.

This is contained in a statement by the firm, which was made available to The PUNCH over the weekend.

According to the statement, the platform, powered by Seamfix’s GovSmart government digital identity and service delivery solution, allows citizens in the diaspora to renew their international passports entirely online without visiting embassies or consular offices.

The firm stressed that ePass is now accessible to Beninese living in over 80 countries.

In the statement, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Seamfix, Chimezie Emewulu, said the target of the company was to help Beninese bridge the gap in their passport application and make the process stress-free for them.

He explained, “At Seamfix, our goal is simple: enabling people to securely prove who they are so they can access the opportunities they deserve.

“With ePass, distance is no longer a barrier to trusted identification or access to essential government services. By eliminating long-distance travel, extended embassy visits, and time away from work or school, ePass expands equal access to public services and reinforces every individual’s right to their identity.”

Also, the Chief Operating Officer of Seamfix, Frank Atube, emphasised that ePass addresses long-standing challenges such as embassy congestion, travel costs, and lengthy processing times.

He added that the platform supports the remote renewal of adult and minor passports, secure document submission, online payments, and biometric capture using personal mobile devices equipped with built-in liveness checks.

He added, “The application is integrated with Benin’s national identity and immigration systems through the GovSmart platform, enabling real-time identity verification and robust data protection. The deployment complies with internationally recognised data privacy and information security standards.

“GovSmart provides governments with a scalable foundation for secure digital service delivery. The ePass deployment demonstrates how digital identity systems can meet national requirements while remaining secure, inclusive, and scalable, without compromising control or compliance.”
