Rivers unveils 20,000 low-cost housing units for residents

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and TAF Africa Global Limited have unveiled the first phase of 20,000 low-cost housing units in the state, aiming to provide affordable homes for residents.

In a statement, it was noted that having realised the huge housing deficit in Africa and with a passion to solve such housing needs, TAG extended into some other West African countries from The Gambia.

It stated, “In 2011, TAG came into Nigeria as TAF Nigeria Homes Limited. One of the projects birthed by this extension is the RIVTAF Golf Estate, a well-master-planned and tastefully built estate sitting on 40 hectares of land in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This is a conversion of about 40 hectares of swampy and inaccessible land into a piece of heaven on earth with the largest luxury estate that has been delivered/developed in the South-South part of Nigeria.

“The estate facilities include a golf course, a water reticulation system, underground electrical infrastructure, sewage treatment systems, a safe environment for children and families, a clubhouse and a well-designed shopping mall. In line with this renewed vision, TAG adopted a new model of developing cities rather than estates and decided to begin from home, The Gambia, with a 5,000-housing project – TAF City.

“This was followed by another 5,000 housing project in Sierra Leone – TAF Micro City – and now the ultimate: 20,000 housing units in Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Greater TAF City.

“The Greater TAF City is a specially planned city designed as a mixed-use live, work and play city. Greater TAF City is a phased city development being developed by Greater TAF Nigeria Limited, which is a joint venture between Pricewise Homes Ltd (TAF Africa Global Ltd) and Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (Government of Rivers State). It is located within the Greater Port Harcourt area of Rivers State on about four expanses of land totalling 1,000 hectares. One such expanse of land is along the airport road and opposite the OPM Headquarters.

“It is a well-designed and properly master-planned city which would comprise about 3,000 units of affordable homes of varying price ranges and house types, including two-bedroom bungalows, three-bedroom bungalows and four-bedroom duplexes. The Greater TAF City boasts of excellent water and sewage reticulation systems, a constant electricity supply (including power generators and solar), a biodigester sewage system, paved roads, reliable internet, solar lights, several trees, gardens and green areas, a wellness centre, and public open spaces.”

Extending his appreciation, the Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa Global Limited, Mustapha Njie, said the vision for the people of Rivers, sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding, a Joint Venture Agreement and a Certificate of Occupancy, has materialised into the first one thousand keys to new homes.

He said, “Your Excellency, Sir, on behalf of TAF Africa Global Limited and Greater TAF Nigeria Limited, I offer our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering commitment and the supportive environment created by your government have been the bedrock of this achievement. You championed this partnership, and today, we are not just delivering houses; we are delivering on the promise you made to the people. Thank you for your steadfast leadership.

“To the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, thank you for your tireless collaboration and diligence. This project stands as a testament to what is possible when the public and private sectors align with a singular purpose for the public good. To the wonderful host community of Greater Taf City, we say thank you. Your warmth, cooperation, and shared belief in this dream have been invaluable. You are not just hosts; you are the heart of this new city. We are committed to growing together in prosperity as we look forward to continued peace and cooperation.

“To our remarkable Board, Management, and Staff at TAF Africa Global, Greater TAF Nigeria, and Pricewise Homes Ltd, with a special mention of our executive directors – Datubo Pepple and Zubi Arguba – look at what we have built! Your dedication, innovation, and late nights have turned lines on a blueprint into a living, thriving community. This is your accomplishment. To our trusted contractors, subcontractors and partners, your skill and professionalism are in every brick, every beam and every pipe. You are the artisans of this dream. We are grateful. And to our esteemed clients and future homeowners, thank you for your confidence in us. You entrusted us with your dream of homeownership. Today, your dream is a reality. This is your milestone.”
