Airtel Africa launches tender for new external auditor

Airtel Africa has launched a formal, independent competitive tender process to select a new external auditor, the telecoms and mobile money operator announced on Wednesday.

This was disclosed by the company in a corporate disclosure filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited.

The PUNCH reports that Airtel Africa is dual-listed on the London Exchange and the NGX and made the announcement to investors in the two markets. Airtel Africa provides telecommunications and mobile money services in 14 countries across Africa.

“A resolution to appoint the successful firm will be proposed to the shareholders at the 2027 Annual General Meeting, with the selected auditor expected to take office to perform the company’s audit for the financial year ending 31 March 2028.

“The decision to conduct the competitive audit tender earlier aligns Airtel Africa with our controlling shareholder, Bharti Airtel Limited, which is subject to mandatory auditor rotation in India, and is not driven by any disagreement with the incumbent auditors nor by any concerns over the quality of the audit,” said the disclosure.

The company said it will issue additional updates once the tender process is concluded in the coming months.

The shares of Airtel Africa are one of the priciest on the NGX. It closed Thursday’s trading at N2,270 per unit with its market capitalisation worth N8.53tn. The company’s issued share capital as at close of business on 28 November 2025 consisted of 3,656,000,539 ordinary shares of $0.50 per share each with one vote, including 7,489,044 ordinary shares held in treasury.
