Unilever Nigeria Plc has engaged transporters on the need to ensure safety precautions by driving within controllable speed limits while on Nigerian roads, particularly during the festive season.
This was stated in a release made available to The PUNCH by the company on Tuesday.
Unilever Nigeria Plc reached both internal and external drivers through its annual Transporters’ Safety Week, a programme dedicated to strengthening safety awareness and operational discipline among its logistics partners.
Held at the company’s Mega Distribution Centre in Agbara, the week-long event, tagged “No Rush! Na Safety Sure Pass,” brought together transporters, drivers, and company executives for intensive safety talks and capacity-building sessions.
In the statement, the Managing Director of the company, Tobi Adeniyi, emphasised that safety remains a shared responsibility and congratulated transporters and drivers recognised for their diligence.
He reiterated the company’s zero-tolerance for road accidents.
He added that “The gathering reaffirmed Unilever’s commitment to a zero-fatality transport network and a culture of accountability across its supply chain. Participants engaged in practical training on defensive driving, cargo protection, and accident prevention, led by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security.
“Drivers also benefitted from free medical screenings to support their overall fitness for road operations,” he stated.
Logistics Manager Ayokunle Ajijola stressed that Unilever’s consistent focus on safety and quality contributed to an accident-free year. He reinforced the value of the initiative since its inception five years ago.
Reeling out the awards for deserving staff members, “Mr. Jimoh Kazeem of Oritsetimeyin Logistics Limited received Best Performing Driver (Pan Nigeria), African Truckers Ltd was named Most Security and Safety-Compliant Transporter, and Kabiru Sani of LORI Systems Technology was honoured for Integrity.”
Ajijola insisted that Unilever Nigeria Plc’s Transporters’ Safety Week serves as a key initiative to advance road safety, improve operational efficiency, and reward excellence across the company’s logistics partners, enhancing Nigeria’s logistics industry.
