SROL wins CIPM HR award for the second consecutive year

Segilola Resources Operating Limited, a gold mining and exploration company, has reaffirmed its industry leadership by winning the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management HR Oscar Award for Best Practices in the Mining Sector at the 57th CIPM International Conference and Exhibition.

In a statement on Monday, it was stated that the award ceremony, held on October 28, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, brought together leading human resource professionals and corporate executives from across Africa to celebrate excellence in human capital management.

It was also stated that this marks the second consecutive year that SROL has received the coveted CIPM HR Oscar Award, a recognition that underscores the company’s sustained commitment to employee development, inclusive workforce strategies, and exemplary HR standards.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Nigeria’s statutory regulatory body for human resource practices, presents the HR Oscar Awards annually to organisations that demonstrate exceptional HR leadership, innovation, and impact. SROL’s back-to-back win places it among the few Nigerian companies consistently recognised for aligning its human resource practices with international benchmarks of excellence.

Speaking on the company’s recognition, Human Resources Manager at Segilola Resources, Oluwaseun Fagesi, expressed gratitude to the CIPM and highlighted the teamwork and dedication that drive the company’s success.

“This award from the CIPM is a validation that our HR systems are not only strong but are truly benchmarked against global best practices,” Fagesi said. “It represents the collective effort of every member of the SROL team and our unwavering commitment to embedding world-class HR standards across all aspects of our operations. As we celebrate this milestone, our focus remains on driving not just mining excellence, but also human and community excellence.”

SROL’s recognition is built on a deliberate and sustained investment in human capital development, diversity, and employee well-being, which has positioned it as an employer of choice in Nigeria’s mining industry.

The company’s workforce composition also reflects its deep commitment to local empowerment. At the Segilola Gold Mine, 99 percent of employees are Nigerians, with 37 per cent drawn from host communities—a figure that surpasses the targets set in its Community Development Agreements. This approach has strengthened the company’s social licence to operate while deepening trust and collaboration with local stakeholders.

Beyond compliance, SROL’s HR philosophy centres on capacity building, inclusivity, and shared prosperity. The company has implemented extensive training and mentorship programmes designed to enhance technical skills and leadership capacity across all employee levels. In addition, SROL continues to promote gender inclusivity by empowering women to excel in roles traditionally dominated by men within the mining sector.

Its community-focused initiatives extend to infrastructure development, education support, and health programmes, reflecting the company’s broader vision of sustainable growth that benefits both employees and the surrounding communities. These interventions have been widely acknowledged as a model for responsible mining in Nigeria.

SROL’s Managing Director, though not present at the award ceremony, reaffirmed the company’s long-term goal of setting new standards for the mining industry through innovation, people development, and sustainability.

The firm’s continued recognition by CIPM, Africa’s largest HR professional body, is not only a testament to its organisational culture but also a reflection of how strategic human resource management can drive productivity and social impact in extractive industries.

Looking ahead, SROL said it would intensify efforts to deepen employee engagement, enhance leadership development programmes, and leverage technology to streamline HR processes and promote operational efficiency.

“Our vision is clear,” Fagesi added. “We aim to sustain our leadership in Nigeria’s mining industry by continuously investing in people, promoting diversity, and fostering innovation. The future of mining lies not only in the minerals we extract but in the people who make it possible.”

With its second consecutive CIPM HR Oscar Award, Segilola Resources Operating Limited continues to demonstrate that excellence in mining extends far beyond gold production—it lies in building people, empowering communities, and shaping a more inclusive future for Nigeria’s resource sector.
