CSCS Hosts Webinar for Stakeholder

Central Securities Clearing System Plc is set to host a webinar as part of industry-wide engagement ahead of Nigeria’s transition to the T+2 Settlement cycle.

In a statement on Wednesday, CSCS said the webinar would be themed ‘Advancing Market Efficiency through T+2 Settlement’.

A settlement cycle is the time frame for the final transfer of a security (like a stock or bond) to be completed after a trade, from the buyer receiving the security to the seller receiving the cash. The cycle is typically denoted as T+X, where “T” is the trade date and “X” is the number of business days until settlement. The Securities and Exchange Commission had earlier announced the transition of the equities market settlement cycle from T+3 to T+2, effective November 28, 2025. This move aligns Nigeria’s capital market with global standards, enhances liquidity, mitigates counterparty risk, and strengthens investor confidence.

Speakers expected at the webinar include the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama; Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of CSCS Plc, Haruna Jalo-Waziri; CEO of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Jude Chiemeka; MD/CEO of NASD Plc, Eguarekhide Longe; MD/CEO of Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange, Akinsola Akeredolu-Ale; and Chairman of the Settlement Cycle Review Committee, Onome Komolafe.

Jalo-Waziri, sharing his thoughts on the webinar, said, “The transition to T+2 is a significant milestone for the Nigerian capital market and a testament to the collaborative spirit of our ecosystem. This shift not only brings our market in line with global best practices but also deepens efficiency, resilience, and investor trust. CSCS is proud to coordinate this journey with the support of regulators, exchanges, and market stakeholders.”

The Settlement Cycle Review Committee, coordinated by CSCS and comprising key industry stakeholders, has led a structured multi-phase assessment process to develop a robust implementation framework. The comprehensive report was submitted to the SEC for regulatory review and approval, paving the way for a seamless transition.

The webinar will provide stakeholders with updates, guidance, and clarity on the implementation process to ensure adequate preparation ahead of the November 28th go-live date.
