Tech & Analytics to Revolutionize Systems

A transportation engineering consultant, Ahmed Oyeyemi, has stated that integrating technology and analytics can enhance the efficiency and safety of transportation systems.

Oyeyemi, who works with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration in the United States, said that sensors, real-time data analysis, and intelligent transport systems can help reduce congestion and prevent accidents.

In a statement on Thursday, he emphasised that while infrastructure development is important, combining technology, policy, and human behaviour is essential to addressing transport challenges.

He added that lessons from his study on Lagos showed that rapid urbanisation increases accident rates and that smart transport solutions can address these issues.

“The lessons from Lagos, where rapid urban growth has stretched our transport systems, show that smart technology can save time, prevent crashes, and improve quality of life. Transportation is not just about moving people and goods; it is about saving lives, protecting the environment, and ensuring economic competitiveness,” he added.

The statement added that Oyeyemi, who is developing frameworks such as Vision Zero Freight and Smart Mobility to improve trucking safety, reduce emissions, and ensure equitable transport access, noted that infrastructure alone cannot solve mobility challenges, adding that technology, policy, and human behaviour must work together to improve road safety and transport efficiency.
