Atnesystems Energy, in collaboration with Metrol Fittings Limited, has completed a 250-kilowatt-hour solar photovoltaic system installation at the Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex. The project, led by Tanwa Iwayemi, was designed to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency.
According to Iwayemi in a statement on Friday, each floor of the eight-story building has its own PV and battery system, allowing for future expansion. “This project marks a major step toward the Lagos State government’s goal of achieving smarter, sustainable infrastructure,” she said. “The solar solution provided clean, stable power for our critical security and communication systems, helping us maintain high service standards.”
She said the project faced significant engineering challenges due to the building’s structure and open terrace roof. However, the team prioritised safety, employing fire-resistant wiring, strict PPE use, and compliance with electrical standards. “Installing 132 panels on that roof wasn’t easy,” Iwayemi said. “Cable routing, heavy equipment transport without elevators, and managing both the building and the car park array made it structurally complex.”
The project was delivered over three years, with meticulous execution from site inspection to final system mounting. The Site Electrical Engineer with Metrol Fittings, Adekunle, described the experience as transformative. “Though I come from an electrical background, this project gave me solid hands-on experience with solar installation,” he said. “I’ve gained the confidence to recommend and execute similar projects in the future.”
The successful deployment of bifacial solar panels, inverters, and fire-resistant wiring is proving its value in real-time performance for mission-critical technology systems. Zglob Engineering Services Limited, responsible for deploying advanced communication and security infrastructure across the complex, reports flawless operation since the integration of the solar solution.
“Our network of Cisco routers, Hikvision access systems, Grandstream IP PBX, and more—all require uninterrupted, stable power,” said Richard Madu. “Thanks to the solar PV and battery system, we’ve experienced seamless operations without a single system crash or delay due to power failure.”
Tanwa Iwayemi, a leading voice in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, has over two decades of experience in the field. With a strong educational background and professional experience, she has led high-profile solar PV/battery storage projects for commercial and residential clients and established global partnerships with manufacturers and specialists.
The solar installation at the Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex is a testament to the potential of clean energy in Nigeria. As the country continues to explore sustainable solutions to its energy needs, projects like this serve as a model for future developments. With its scalable design and emphasis on safety, this solar installation is poised to make a lasting impact on the building’s operations and the environment.
