The Nigerian Auctioneers Group has inaugurated a National Task Force Committee as part of efforts to sanitise the auction industry and eliminate unauthorised practices nationwide.
The group, comprising core professionals in the industry, announced in a statement that it has named David Omeike as the National Chairman of the committee.
The National Caretaker and Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Association of Auctioneers said the task force will “enforce compliance with the NAA constitution, code of conduct, and operational guidelines and ensure only duly registered and licensed auctioneers operate in Nigeria.”
The committee’s mandate also includes monitoring and preventing unauthorised auction activities, curbing sharp practices, liaising with law enforcement and regulatory agencies, and supporting the implementation of decisions from the Caretaker Committee and National Executive Council.
Other members of the task force include Messrs Adeyemo Adeyemi, Sani Mohammed, Danladi Mamman, Isah Muhammed, Sanusi Ahmad, Tari Emberru, Ebube Jackson, Eddy Imo, Eze Abraham, Umah Argungu, and Abubakar Abdullahi, who will serve as secretary.
Omeike, a member of the Lagos State chapter of the association, is the Executive Director of the International Human Rights & Dignity Defenders’ Forum. He is also an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Supernumerary), a certified private investigator, and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, USA.
He previously chaired the NAA Task Force in the South-West and currently serves as Managing Director of Cosmopolitan Security and Enquirers. The association stated that the inauguration is part of ongoing reforms to restructure and professionalise the auctioneering sector in line with national standards and global best practices.
The Board of Trustees of the NAA is chaired by Alfred Diette-Spiff, who also served as the first NEC president of the association.
