The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria has emphasised the importance of collaboration between chief executive officers and human resource leaders in achieving sustainable business growth.
This message was delivered at the 2025 CEO/CHRO/HRD forum held recently in Lagos, themed ‘Building Strategic Partnerships: The Roles of CEOs and HR in Organisations.’
CIPM President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Ahmed Gobir, in his opening remarks, said the relationship between CEOs and HR leaders was central to driving long-term business success.
“When leadership and people strategy hit the same rhythm, organisations do not just survive; they soar, scale, and set standards,” Gobir said.
He called on business leaders to break down silos and adopt collaborative practices that promote innovation and strengthen organisational culture.
The Managing Director of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Oyeyimika Adeboye, who delivered the keynote address, described HR as a strategic partner that translates organisational vision into execution and value creation.
She encouraged HR leaders to go beyond administrative duties, such as payroll and compliance, and take active roles in employee development, leadership succession, and managing organisational change.
According to her, “The CEO provides strategic direction and authority, while the HR Director orchestrates the people and changes management dimensions, ensuring buy-in at all levels.”
Speakers at the forum noted that aligning human capital strategy with business goals is crucial, especially in the face of digital disruption, economic shifts, and evolving workforce expectations.
