Shell International and indigenous energy firm Ardova Plc have called for stronger public-private partnerships as a critical step toward resolving Nigeria’s persistent power sector challenges.
The call was made at the Shell Power Conference 2.0, held in Lagos recently. Themed ‘Powering Nigeria’s Energy Future: Bridging the Gap Between Ambition and Action,’ the event brought together key players in the energy ecosystem, including policymakers, private sector leaders, innovators, and investors, to chart a practical roadmap for energy reform in the country.
Speaking during his welcome remarks, the Managing Director of Ardova Plc, Moshood Olajide, said the collaboration between both entities underscores a shared commitment to transforming access to electricity in Nigeria.
“Our partnership with Shell is founded on a shared vision to drive innovation in power and make it accessible to Nigerians.
The conversations here today are a testament to the collective will and expertise required to make that happen,” Olajide said.
The conference featured a panel session featuring industry players, including Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Moktar Bounour; Managing Director of Greenflare, Adeoye Fadeyibi; and Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure, Office of the Vice President, Wanka Sodiq.
The panellists examined barriers to sustainable electricity delivery in Nigeria, stressing the importance of enabling regulations, coherent energy policy, and long-term investment strategies to stimulate private sector participation.
Speaking at the event, Osama El-Sherif, Business Development Manager and Shell Macro Distributor for Europe and Africa, noted that the energy transition in Nigeria must strike a balance between ambition and realism.
“At Shell, we believe Nigeria’s energy transition must be ambitious and realistic. This conference allows us to connect vision with action by listening, collaborating, and working together to shape solutions that can truly transform lives,” El-Sherif stated.
The conference also focused on practical solutions to bridge the energy access gap, emphasising accountability, capacity building, and finance as major levers to drive change.
Ardova Plc, the authorised distributor of Shell lubricants in Nigeria, reiterated its role in supporting energy productivity through innovative solutions that enhance competitiveness and sustainability for Nigerian businesses.
The PUNCH reported that in a bid to boost energy sector productivity, Shell International has partnered with Ardova Plc to launch the inaugural Power Conference, aimed at fostering dialogue around productivity and competitiveness in the industry.
