Insurance Industry Growth & Tribute

The Commissioner for Insurance of the National Insurance Commission, Olusegun Omosehin, has said that the late former Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, was committed to the growth of the sector during his tenure in office.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commission on Monday, signed by the CFI.

Buhari died in London on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m. following a prolonged illness.

Omosehin, in his condolence message, said, “It is with profound sadness that we received the news of the passing of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. On behalf of the National Insurance Commission and the entire insurance industry, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the good people of Nigeria.

“During his tenure, former President Buhari GCFR demonstrated unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the insurance industry, and his leadership had a lasting impact on the nation’s economic landscape.”

The CFI also prayed for his soul to rest in peace and that “his legacy continues to inspire us as we strive to build a more resilient and prosperous Nigeria.”

Buhari was Nigeria’s president between 2015 and 2023. He was the first Nigerian president to oust an incumbent via election.

Aged 82, Buhari is expected to be buried on Tuesday according to Muslim rites in Daura, Daura Local Government Area of his home state, Katsina State.

Announcing this on Monday, the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, who spoke to newsmen at the Government House, Katsina, said, “Concerning the burial arrangement for our father, the late president, who passed on yesterday in a hospital in London, we have made consultations with the family and people around London, and we concluded that the body will arrive in Katsina tomorrow by noon, and the burial is going to take place in Daura at about 2 pm. These are the arrangements in place.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government and the North-West Governors Forum have declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of Buhari.
