A Lagos-based property owner, Engineer Olufemi Fasehun, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over an alleged professional misconduct.
In a statement, it was noted that the victim described the act as a gross abuse of power and professional misconduct by officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Monitoring Unit of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.
It stated, “In a strongly worded letter dated July 2, 2025, and addressed to the Complaint Response Unit of the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, Fasehun, through his legal representatives, Goldrush Partners, alleged that CSP Taofiq Sanni, the Officer-in-Charge of the Monitoring Unit, led a team that unlawfully invaded his property at No. 10, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, on June 4, 5, and 20, 2025.”
The petition accused the police team of criminal trespass, unlawful arrest, illegal sealing of a business premises (Paradox Restaurant), and wilful disregard of due legal procedures under the guise of executing an interlocutory court order.
“Our client is the rightful owner of the property as evidenced by a registered deed of indenture, survey plan, and valid court judgement.
“Despite this, CSP Sanni and his team arrested him and a tenant, sealed off the premises, and subjected them to dehumanising treatment,“ the petition partly read.
According to the statement, the police team allegedly acted on a contested interlocutory order in Suit No. ID/11239LMW/2021 (Olufemi Fasehun v. Cletus Nwagwu & Ors), which directed all parties to maintain the status quo. Fasehun’s legal team insists he complied with the order and submitted an affidavit to that effect.
It added, “The petition further outlines a series of legal and procedural violations by the officers. Rather than follow proper contempt proceedings through Forms 48 and 49, the complainants allegedly manipulated the police into acting unilaterally against Fasehun.
“The Monitoring Unit is accused of acting as agents of the complainants, disregarding Fasehun’s documentation, and breaching civil court processes. The police reportedly sealed off the property and adjoining restaurant business without any court order authorising such action.”
The statement noted that according to the petition, the complainants presented a falsified court document as a “Supreme Court Judgement” to justify previous police actions.
“The legal team also alleges that CSP Sanni threatened to arraign Fasehun in court on July 1, 2025, in an attempt to ‘satisfy the complainants,’ despite the matter being sub judice before Hon. Justice Oshoala of the Ikeja High Court.
“These actions have brought not just economic loss and psychological trauma to our client but have also undermined the integrity of the Nigerian legal system,” the petition noted. “It is apparent that the Zonal Monitoring Unit officers have deviated from the lawful mandate of the Police Force.”
“Calling for the immediate intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, the petition urges a full-scale investigation into the alleged misconduct and demands the protection of the constitutional rights of their client.”
Efforts to reach the Zone 2 Command for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
