The National Automotive Design and Development Council has moved to boost energy availability through private investment, following the commissioning of a filling station in Ekiti State.
The council stated in a statement that the Director-General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, commissioned a multi-product filling station in Ikole-Ekiti, highlighting the role and success of Nigeria’s automotive gas policy in its economic development.
Osanipin said, “This project is a timely response to energy diversification and economic development. It underscores how private sector-led infrastructure can support Nigeria’s automotive gas adoption strategy and enhance local economies.”
The facility, located along the Ikole-Omuo Federal Expressway, was built by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of K&T GAT Ltd, Sunday Ogunbiyi. According to the company, the facility is the first in Ikole Local Government and Ajoni Local Council Development Area.
The station dispenses petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and compressed natural gas, and is expected to serve residents, motorists, and small businesses in the area.
Ogunbiyi noted that the station was “a dream born out of the desire to contribute meaningfully to local development, promote clean energy alternatives, and create employment for youths in Ekiti.” He thanked the NADDC for its support and pledged to continue expanding energy access in underserved areas.
Chairman of Ikole Local Government, Bayo Omojola, described the facility as “a strategic investment that will ease fuel access and boost commerce across communities in Ikole and Ajoni.” He urged other private investors to emulate Ogunbiyi’s initiative.
Also speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of Ikuri-Ekiti, Adeyeye Fatile Ezekiel, said the project “brings development closer to the grassroots and reaffirms Ikuri’s place in Ekiti’s economic map.” He prayed for the continued growth of the business and peaceful coexistence among residents.
Dignitaries at the commissioning included Michael Ogungbemi, represented by Tunde Familusi; Muyiwa Olukosi; Victor Mebusaye; and the Otun of Òkè-Àkò Ekiti, Ademola Arosanyin.
The NADDC aligned with the company to note that the project aligns with national efforts to drive cleaner energy use, improve mobility, create jobs and stimulate local commerce across the country.
