Foreign portfolio transactions on the Nigerian Exchange Limited surged to N118.9bn in May 2025, representing an increase of 88.54 per cent compared to N63.07bn recorded in April 2025.
The rise in foreign inflows, equivalent to about $74.97m at the prevailing exchange rate, contributed significantly to the overall equity market activity, which saw total transactions jump by 45.32 per cent from N482.04bn in April to N700.50bn in May.
Year-to-date figures for 2025 show that foreign transactions have reached N996.03bn, accounting for 29.17 per cent of total market transactions, while domestic investors continue to dominate with 70.83 per cent participation.
In May alone, domestic transactions increased by 38.81 per cent to N581.59bn, with retail investors outperforming institutional investors by 16 per cent, driven by an 86.12 per cent rise in retail trades from N181.31bn in April to N337.46bn.
Comparing the market activity with the same period in 2024, total transactions in May 2025 more than doubled, rising 97.11 per cent from N355.38bn.
