Instollar Technologies says it has launched the second phase of its InstallHER Initiative, a clean energy training programme aimed at increasing the number of women in the solar sector.
Supported by the Acumen Angels Grant, the firm disclosed that the initiative is currently training 100 women across Nigeria to become certified solar technicians, entrepreneurs, and sales agents.
In a statement, the company said it hoped to train 10,000 women by 2030.
The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Chinwe Udo-Davis, said that less than one per cent of his over 1200 technicians were women, stressing the need to close the gap.
“Out of over 1,200 technicians in our workforce database, less than one per cent were women. That’s a gap we can’t afford to ignore. InstallHER is our solution, a hands-on pathway for women to access the skills, opportunities, and income potential in Africa’s energy transition,” Udo-Davis said.
He stressed that the programme was designed to address barriers that limit women’s participation in the solar industry, such as technical entry requirements, lack of mentorship, and limited industry exposure.
The curriculum, it was learnt, covers solar installation and maintenance, entrepreneurship, business development, and sales agency pathways.
According to him, the pilot phase, which took place in June 2024, trained over 30 women, several of whom were said to have since secured placements with solar firms or engaged in sales-related activities within their communities.
“This isn’t just about training. It’s about connecting women to real income-generating opportunities in an industry that desperately needs talent,” Udo-Davis added.
Instollar Technologies operates a digital workforce platform that connects solar companies with trained gig workers across Africa. The firm offers services in solar home systems, commercial and industrial installations, mini-grids, and mesh grids, including installation, maintenance, and after-sales support.
