Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre says it rewarded 1,346 of its members with business support items during the 14th edition of its annual Grooming Splash event held in Lagos recently.
The Chief Executive Officer, Dr Godwin Nwabunka, said in a statement that the initiative reflected the centre’s ongoing commitment to rewarding hard work and supporting small businesses.
“Grooming Splash is part of the ways we support women; we also have a scholarship scheme for the children of these women in secondary schools and grants for undergraduates as well as postgraduate students,” Nwabunka said.
According to him, women drawn from Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Abia and Abuja received various tools through a computer-generated raffle.
“The items included 82 deep freezers, 58 5KVA generators, 58 big double-door refrigerators, 82 small double-door refrigerators, 106 3KVA generators, 480 coolers with 150L, and another 480 coolers with 110L. 58 winners were selected from each of our 24 zones across 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” he stated.
The Executive Director of Programmes, Alexander Enyinnah, said the centre increased the number of prizes this year to reflect the scale of its impact and to reward client commitment. “Even in challenging economic times, we believe our members deserve to be appreciated,” he said.
Additionally, Isoken Nwabunka, the Executive Director of Administration, stated that the centre’s focus is on helping clients strengthen their businesses. “These tools are meant to support livelihoods and are our way of giving back to the women,” she noted.
To maintain transparency, the organisation explained that the draws were conducted using digital systems. “We utilised technology to ensure the draw is done in real-time, making sure that the process was open and fair,” the Head of Digital Operations, Louisa Chukwuemeka, stated.
Recipients were said to have expressed appreciation and surprise. “Beatrice Olaosun, who won a refrigerator, said the item would help her store perishables and grow her business. Eucharia Nwabuna, a generator winner, said she was shocked when she received the call informing her that she had won, and she came to see for herself. Valentina Alozie, who received the first prize, a deep freezer, called it a welcome boost for her daily business operations.
“The annual Grooming Splash is part of the centre’s wider effort to support micro-entrepreneurs across the country and improve household income through direct and sustained interventions,” the statement read.
