Prudential Zenith Leads Lagos Initiative

Prudential Zenith Life Insurance has joined forces with the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Waterways Authority to conduct an environmental cleanup campaign along the Ozumba Mbadiwe waterfront.

According to a statement from the insurance firm, the clean-up exercise resulted in about three tonnes of plastic waste being removed from key locations along the waterfront.

The collaborative effort, held in celebration of World Environment Day 2025, aimed to reinforce the company’s commitment to fostering a cleaner, greener Lagos.

Aligned with this year’s global theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, the initiative saw over 50 volunteers, including staff from Prudential Zenith Life, LAWMA, and LASWA, gather at the Five Cowrie Creek.

Beyond the physical cleanup, the day also included the donation of essential cleaning tools such as drag rakes, gloves, rain boots, and waste-trapping nets to support sustained environmental management.

Furthermore, educational outreach sessions were conducted, focusing on waste segregation, recycling, and the protection of marine ecosystems.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Funmilayo Omo, underscored the company’s philosophy, stating, “Sustainability is fundamental to how we deliver value. At Prudential Zenith Life, protecting lives means more than offering insurance; it means safeguarding the planet we all share. We are proud to stand alongside LAWMA and LASWA to demonstrate the power of partnerships in driving positive environmental change. This initiative is integral to Prudential Zenith Life’s broader goal of building resilient communities and shaping a more sustainable, inclusive, and responsible future.”

Head of LAWMA’s Marine Department, Lanre Shashore, acknowledged the importance of these collaborations, saying, “This partnership with Prudential Zenith Life underscores the need for collective action in addressing environmental challenges.

Today, we didn’t just clean; we educated and inspired.”

Similarly, LASWA General Manager Damilola Emmanuel added, “Our waterways are vital to Lagos’ identity and economy. This collaboration is a meaningful step toward preserving them for future generations.”

Prudential Zenith Life emphasised that World Environment Day 2025 is not a standalone event but rather a component of a continuous, ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and resilience. The company plans to continue its efforts through monthly cleanups, community education programmes, and supporting green innovations.
