Lekki Port Trade Booms After Road Fix

The management of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited says the inauguration of the Lekki Deep Seaport access road has boosted the confidence of shippers and other stakeholders to import and export goods through the port.

The port stated this in a statement recently.

Recall that a few weeks ago, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the 37-kilometre Lekki Deep Seaport Access Road, located within the Lagos Free Zone at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. The road links the Dangote Refinery with the Fertiliser Plant to Eleko Junction.

The Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, explained that the access road will enhance the port’s efficiency “by facilitating seamless cargo evacuation from the port, thereby positively boosting trade and economic growth.”

Qiang said the issue of access roads to the Lekki Deep Seaport has been a source of concern for the port to deliver on its mandate as the gateway to Nigeria and as the game changer in the maritime sector.

He said with the inauguration of the road, stakeholders now have more confidence to import and export goods through Lekki Port.

Wang noted that the inauguration of the access road was not only historic but also symbolic because President Bola Tinubu conceived the idea and started the entire Lekki Free Trade Zone during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007.

He added that the completion of the port’s access road, the recent approval by the government to construct the 7th Axial Road, and the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway have strategically positioned Lekki Deep Seaport as a Nigerian maritime hub.

Commenting on the competitive advantage of Lekki Deep Sea Port, Wang disclosed that the port is the largest and deepest seaport in Nigeria, with a depth of 16.5 metres, capable of receiving 18,000 TEU vessels as a transshipment.

He also noted that Lekki Port is the most modern, fully automated port in Nigeria with quality facilities, as well as offering the fastest estimated time for clearing imports from vessel arrival between five and seven days.

Wang pledged that Lekki Port will continue to collaborate with the government and stakeholders in promoting a viable maritime sector and putting Nigeria on the global map as West Africa’s maritime hub.
