Varsity Trading Competition Concludes: Babcock University Wi

AVA Securities Limited, a subsidiary of AVA Capital Group, has successfully concluded the second edition of the AVA Securities Trading Competition, a pioneering initiative that allows Nigerian university students to trade with real capital of N5m.

In a statement on Sunday, the competition, launched last year, is the first of its kind in Nigeria and is designed to deepen financial literacy, enhance risk management and strategic thinking skills, and expose students to the realities of securities trading in a live market environment.

Unlike traditional stock trading simulations, the AVA Securities Trading Competition empowers selected student teams from Nigerian universities with N5m in live capital to trade on the AVA Securities platform.

According to the statement, Season Two of the programme featured student teams from Babcock University, University of Port Harcourt, University of Benin, University of Ilorin, Covenant University, Pan-Atlantic University, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, and University of Ibadan.

Over a four-month period, the students navigated Nigeria’s volatile equities market, applying intelligent trading strategies, managing risks, and adapting to market fluctuations for the first time.

At the end of the competition, Babcock University emerged as the overall winner. Team Coral from the University of Port Harcourt (winners of Season One) came second, while Team Ivory from the University of Benin clinched third place.

Commenting on the success of the initiative and the launch of Season Three, Managing Director of AVA Securities Limited, Ifeyinwa Adeniji, said, “This competition is more than just trading; it is about building a financially savvy generation equipped to make smart investment decisions. As the first of its kind in Nigeria, we are proud to continue leading the charge in shaping how young people interact with capital markets.”
