Firm unveils strategy for product industry

Innovate Africa Fund and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund have highlighted plans to equip over 500 tech innovators to tap into Africa’s product ecosystem, which is worth over $500bn.

Speaking at a Zoom meeting on Friday to herald the World Product Day 2025, scheduled to be held on May 21 in Lagos, the organiser of the event, through its Fund Operations, Chiebuka Obumselu, said the firm’s partnership with LSETF is part of its strong commitment to building a strong product development ecosystem aimed at driving product education and execution.

“We are working with LSETF to build a new crop of tech innovators from theory to practice to take advantage of the product development ecosystem valued at over $500bn,” she said.

According to her, the World Product Day is apt because Africa’s tech sector is maturing rapidly, “but the single biggest gap we continue to see is in product execution.”

She further stated, “World Product Day Lagos was born from a simple but important insight: ideas aren’t enough. It’s how you build that matters.

“While other events celebrate funding rounds and visibility, this one is about craft—what it takes to build better, more inclusive, and scalable products on the continent.”

She said the campaign is designed to drive public buzz, engage stakeholders, and amplify conversations around product innovation, African talent, and the global relevance of locally built solutions.

She added, “World Product Day is part of a global movement that celebrates the power of product management and innovation. This year’s Lagos edition is not just a celebration; it’s a statement that Africa is building, shipping, and scaling globally relevant products.

“We’re not focused on theory—we’re focused on execution. Every session is designed to give attendees a new tool, skill, or relationship they can use the next day.

“Most tech events speak to founders. World Product Day Lagos is talking to the full product team—from the designer to the researcher to the product ops lead.

“If Africa is the future, product is the infrastructure. And we’re building that here.”
