The Nigerian Bottling Company Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility following a recent visit by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, to its newly built Packaging Collection Hub in Apapa, Lagos.
According to a statement, Egloff commended NBC for what he described as “bold investments in sustainable development,” and lauded the Apapa facility as “a major milestone with the potential to drive significant environmental and economic impact across Nigeria.”
NBC Managing Director Goran Sladic said the hub reflects the company’s long-term dedication to Nigeria’s economic and ecological future.
“Our Packaging Collection Hub is a clear demonstration of our environmental responsibility,” Sladic stated. “It is part of our strategic goal to collect and recycle 100 per cent of the packaging we produce by 2030.”
He added that the hub is promoting a circular economy, creating green jobs and empowering waste aggregators, particularly youth and women.
Sladic expressed interest in collaborating with the Swiss government and institutions, citing Switzerland’s global leadership in recycling and sustainability.
“Switzerland is a model for environmental excellence. We see great potential for knowledge exchange and partnerships that will strengthen Nigeria’s circular economy ecosystem,” NBC’s MD added.
Ambassador Egloff described NBC’s efforts as “an inspiring example of how private sector investment can align with public good.”
The visit also created an avenue for both parties to discuss shared priorities and explore possible areas of collaboration in recycling innovation, sustainability, and capacity building.
NBC, a member of the Coca-Cola HBC Group operating in 29 countries, including Switzerland, has operated in Nigeria for over 74 years.
