Sahara Group to support power initiatives in Ogun

Sahara Group is in talks with the Ogun State Government to boost power supply in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, disclosed this yesterday in a statement on his social media handles.

According to him, the state has hosted the Sahara Group team led by the Managing Director, Kola Adesina.

Abiodun said they were in Ogun to help design a distribution network that will evacuate power from the existing 13 megawatts, to scale up to 34 megawatts.

The network, he said, will connect last-mile customers across the Abeokuta district.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance energy infrastructure in Ogun State, we recently hosted a team from Sahara Group, led by their Group Managing Director, Mr. Kola Adesina.

“Their visit took them all the way from Oriomi to Okemosan, the proposed site of the new substation. They are working with us to design a distribution network that will evacuate power from the existing 13 megawatts, with a view to scaling up to 34 megawatts. This network will also connect last-mile customers across the greater Abeokuta district,” he stated.

The governor added that Adesina and his team were taken to the Oyan Dam.

“We also accompanied the Sahara team to the Oyan Dam, where they conducted field studies and reconnaissance visits, having previously done a walk-through from Onijangonjangon.

“While discussions around the dam were exploratory, their primary purpose for visiting was to express a strong interest in partnering with us to design and implement a comprehensive state distribution network,” he noted.

Abiodun stressed that the collaboration aligns with the state’s vision under the Ogun State Light Up Project.

“The meeting was a significant step towards a broader partnership, with Sahara Group expressing readiness to support our energy and power initiatives in any way that serves the interest of Ogun State.

“We welcome Sahara Group and look forward to working closely with them to light up Ogun State and empower our communities through sustainable energy solutions,” he submitted.
