Nigerian Bottling Company bags award

Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, the authorised bottling partner of the Coca-Cola Company in Nigeria, has been honoured with the Best Sustainability Project of the Year award at the 2024 edition of The Industry Awards.

The recognition was for its recently commissioned Packaging Collection Hub in Apapa, Lagos, an initiative that exemplifies NBC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible business practices, the firm stated in a statement.

The ceremony, held in Lagos recently, was organised by Industry Newspaper. The annual event celebrates excellence in branding and marketing, spotlighting organisations and individuals making significant contributions to West Africa’s fast-moving consumer goods and marketing ecosystem.

This year’s theme, ‘Understanding Changing Consumer Preferences in a Troubled

FMCG Space’, highlighted the importance of innovation and adaptability in the face of economic challenges and evolving consumer demands.

Accepting the award on behalf of NBC, the Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director, Oluwasoromidayo George, expressed deep appreciation to the organisers, describing the recognition as “a powerful motivation for us to do even more in promoting environmental responsibility.”

She reaffirmed NBC’s commitment to sustainability-driven innovation, noting that the Packaging Collection Hub was designed to boost recycling rates, promote sustainable packaging practices, and reduce environmental impact.

“We see every bottle and aluminum can as more than just waste — it’s a resource with the potential for new life. That’s why we’re working closely with our partners and suppliers to make recycling easier, reduce packaging waste, and build a cleaner environment. In doing so, we’re also creating jobs, empowering communities, and helping to drive inclusive growth across Nigeria,” she stated.

She further emphasised that the award underscores the company’s dedication to “collect the equivalent of 100 per cent of packaging for recycling or reuse by 2030.”

NBC’s Packaging Collection Hub stands as a model of collaborative action, environmental responsibility, and lasting social impact.
