The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service, in a joint operation with the Federal Road Safety Corps, on Wednesday, said it has impounded 28 trucks and articulated vehicles.

The impounded vehicles were said to have violated different traffic rules, truncating safety protocols in the state.

A statement by the Lagos State Ministry of Transport explained that the affected vehicles were apprehended for a range of infractions, including broken headlamps, defective rear lights, worn-out tyres, and missing or incomplete wheel nuts.

Other infractions committed by the trucks also include the absence of valid driver’s licenses and failure to present valid Lagos State Drivers’ Institute recertification cards, among other violations.

The statement read, “A joint enforcement operation conducted earlier today by the Heavy Duty Vehicle Division of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps resulted in the impoundment of 28 trucks and articulated vehicles.

“This routine joint operation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and ensure that heavy-duty vehicles operating within Lagos comply with established safety and regulatory standards.”

Recall that the Managing Director of the VIS, Akin-George Fashola, recently led an enforcement operation that resulted in the impoundment of over 200 unroadworthy vehicles across the state.

Revealing the basis behind the operation, Fashola reiterated that the enforcement exercise targeted a wide range of vehicles, with a significant number comprising commercial minibuses, including Danfos and Korope vehicles, which have contributed largely to numerous accidents in the state.

He further emphasized that the operation was not restricted to private vehicles alone, as is commonly believed, but extends to all categories of vehicles contributing to the state’s transport ecosystem.
