CHI Pharma champions fight against malaria

CHI Pharmaceuticals Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against malaria as the country continues to bear one-third of the global burden of the disease.

According to a statement, Chief Operating Officer of CHI Pharmaceuticals, Shriram Iyer, said the company was championing advocacy, education, and access to effective treatment to combat the scourge in his address at the World Malaria Day event organised by the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers in Lagos.

“Malaria continues to be a grave health challenge in Nigeria,” Iyer said. “As a responsible healthcare provider, we believe that educating consumers and engaging fellow healthcare professionals across the value chain is key to reducing this burden and saving lives.”

He emphasised the critical role of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors in taking healthcare to the grassroots, describing them as “crucial to ensuring the safety of Nigerians.”

CHI Pharma used the occasion to underscore the importance of World Malaria Day, the need for timely access to quality medications, and the contribution of NAPPMED members to malaria control efforts nationwide.

The company also unveiled its relaunched antimalarial drug, Co-Mal describing it as a key tool in managing uncomplicated malaria.

Iyer noted that the drug is part of CHI Pharma’s strategy to ensure Nigerians have access to safe and effective treatment.

He also raised concern over the circulation of fake and substandard drugs, an issue recently highlighted by the closure of some drug markets across the country.

According to him, CHI Pharma’s new mass media campaign aims to reinforce public trust in quality medicines and reaffirm the company’s role in saving lives.

The event based on the global theme, ‘Malaria Ends With Us: Re-invent, Re-imagine and Re-ignite,’ brought together various pharmaceutical stakeholders and strengthened partnerships between CHI Pharma and grassroots healthcare providers.

Iyer disclosed that the company would deepen its collaboration with NAPPMED and continue to support initiatives that promote access to affordable and safe medicines.

CHI Pharmaceuticals, a member of the TGI Group, is a Nigerian pharmaceutical firm.
