Union Bank empowers young footballers


Union Bank of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and education through its sponsorship of the 11th edition of the Greensprings Football Academy.

In a statement on Wednesday, the five-day football training camp, which took place recently in Lagos, catered to children aged between 5 and 17 years. The event brought together a mix of budding talents and experienced football professionals for an intensive and enriching experience.

According to the statement, participants received professional training from top international coaches affiliated with the West Bromwich Albion Football Club, the Dutch Football Association, and the English Football League.

Local expertise was also present, with coaches from the Lagos State Football Association lending their skills, alongside Nigerian football legend Victor Ikpeba, popularly known as “The Prince of Monaco.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Lead, External Communications at Union Bank, Bukola Ayeni, explained that the bank’s support was driven by its flagship education platform, Edu360.

“Union Bank is proud to support the Greensprings Football Academy under our Edu360 initiative, which aligns with our core value of being community-focused,” Ayeni stated.

“Edu360 is a platform to promote quality education, both formal and informal, including sports, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4  on Quality Education.”

She further highlighted the bank’s 108-year legacy of supporting Nigerian youth and fostering future leaders through impactful initiatives.

Also, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Greensprings School, Lai Koiki, emphasized the importance of equipping students for the future.

“We are being future-ready. We are preparing the youth for success in football and in leadership,” she said.

The PUNCH reported that the Union Bank of Nigeria has provided support for its young entrepreneurs through the sponsorship of the RISE Business Challenge at the University of Lagos, Akoka, during the sixth Annual Youth Leadership Conference.
