Adopt renewable energy, Ogun urges industrial partners

Ogun State Government has called on chemical handlers, industrial partners, and policymakers to adopt clean energy technologies, including Compressed Natural Gas and renewable energy, to prioritise environmental compliance and ensure long-term sustainability.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, made the call while declaring open the third edition of the Chemical Handlers and Users Workshop, which was put together by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency and has the theme, ’Clean Energy for a Healthier State—Reducing Pollution Through Sustainable Energy Solutions’.

Represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyelede, Abiodun said it was by adopting these clean energy technologies that the state and Nigeria would reduce pollution, improve public health and build a legacy of sustainability for future generations.

He urged the participants of the workshop to actively engage, share insight and contribute towards actionable recommendations that will shape the state government’s policies and programmes, noting that the state continues to lead in environmental stewardship exemplified by key initiatives such as waste-to-resource revolution, electric mobility leadership, and the Ogun Ignite Youth Empowerment Programme.

In his opening remark, the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, said the workshop has evolved into a pivotal platform for discussing innovative solutions, enforcing compliance, and fostering accountability in chemical safety and environmental protection while reiterating the state government’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency, Farook Akintunde, noted that clean energy represents a pathway towards reducing harmful emissions and combating climate change, which can only be achieved through collective efforts and commitment.
