Firm empowers 135,000 farmers with tractors

TracTrac, an agricultural mechanisation service provider, has provided tractors and mechanised farming solutions to over 135,000 smallholder farmers to boost Nigeria’s food production.

The company, which was founded in 2019, is tackling the challenges of high costs, limited financing, and weak supply chains that have kept mechanisation out of reach for most farmers.

In a statement, TracTrac noted that it is leveraging digital technology to make mechanisation more accessible.

It observed that only 16 per cent of smallholder farmers in Nigeria have access to mechanised equipment, despite agriculture being the backbone of the economy.

The firm pointed out that through TracTrac-Plus, a real-time booking system, farmers can connect with mechanisation service providers, track assets, map farms, make payments, and aggregate services demand.

The Chief Executive Officer of TracTrac Mechanisation Services Limited, Ohuruogu Godson, emphasised that the company equipped farmers with “the tools, knowledge, and financial solutions they need to succeed in a modern agricultural landscape.”

He added that the firm delivered mechanisation services and built a resilient ecosystem that empowers farmers for future generations through strategic partnerships and policy advocacy.

Further, the company said that it is also addressing gender and youth gaps in mechanisation by supporting 50 per cent of newly trained MSPs who are women and young entrepreneurs between 18 and 35 are being to set up sustainable mechanisation businesses.

TracTrac revealed it engaged policymakers and private investors to drive mechanisation growth, working with stakeholders such as the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, Women in Mechanisation Association, and the Nigeria Economic Summit Group to advocate for favourable policies.
