DataPro to train journalists

Nigeria’s technology-driven credit rating agency, DataPro, has announced March 27, 2025, as the date for its annual virtual training for media practitioners.

In a statement made available to our correspondent by the firm on Tuesday, the training, which began in 2021 as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative, aims to enhance public awareness about the value proposition of the credit rating industry.

Speaking on the upcoming event, the Chief Rating Officer of DataPro, Oladele Adeoye, said, ‘Understanding Qualitative Factors in Rating Considerations’ was chosen as this year’s theme.

“The training is designed to equip media practitioners covering the business, financial, and economic sectors with the knowledge, skill set, and aptitude to correctly report on the regulatory landscape, industry trends, economic ecosystem, market conditions, environment, social, political, corporate governance, and risk management aspects of credit rating reports,” Adeoye said.

The virtual programme will host participants from both print and electronic media, focusing on improving their reporting accuracy and depth on credit ratings.

As part of its continued commitment to industry education, DataPro also organises the International Credit Rating Webinar every October to further promote awareness of the rating sector.

The PUNCH reported that DataPro has charged journalists with being aware of their role in ensuring credible ratings of firms to boost corporate governance.
