The National Pension Commission and the Nigerian Insurers Association have sought action to ensure an inclusive and equitable industry where every woman thrives.
This call was made on Saturday as the world commemorates International Women’s Day under the theme ‘Accelerate Action.’.
In her statement, the Director-General of PenCom, Omolola Oloworaran, said,
“On this International Women’s Day 2025, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the remarkable women whose dedication and expertise continue to shape the pension industry. Your contributions to financial security and retirement planning are invaluable, and your resilience inspires progress. As we celebrate this year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action for Gender Equality,’ let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable industry where every woman has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can take bold steps toward a stronger, more sustainable pension system for all.”
The Director-General of the NIA, Bola Odukale, in her message, said, “This year’s IWD theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ resonates deeply with our values and mission.
We are proud to be part of a global movement that recognises the importance of women’s empowerment and gender equality and will continue to accelerate action towards creating a more inclusive and equitable industry, where women can thrive and reach their full potential rapidly.
“To our female insurers, I salute your dedication, resilience, and innovative spirit.
Your invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the insurance industry in Nigeria are a testament to your hard work and determination. You have broken barriers, defied stereotypes, and inspired a new generation of women to pursue careers in insurance.
“To women globally, your unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of excellence are truly inspiring. As we celebrate your achievements, I want to highlight the critical role insurance plays in securing your financial well-being.”
Odukale went on to sensitise women on the importance of insurance in empowering them to build resilience, drive economic growth, and break free from poverty by providing a financial safety net, protecting their assets, and offering peace of mind.
“As we celebrate this special day, I urge you all to take control of your financial lives, prioritise your insurance needs, and support one another in your pursuit of financial freedom,” she said.
Odukale reiterated NIA’s commitment to working with member companies in the areas of promoting women’s leadership and career advancement in the insurance industry, supporting initiatives that address the unique challenges faced by women in the industry, encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our operations, and partnering with organisations that share our commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
