JA Nigeria, Microsoft to train 5,000 in Gen AI

Junior Achievement Nigeria has partnered with Microsoft Philanthropies to launch the Career Essentials in Generative AI programme, a digital literacy initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with essential knowledge and practical skills.

The firm made this disclosure in a statement to The PUNCH on Wednesday.

Beginning in February 2024, the programme will provide structured, interactive training for over 5000 young Nigerians who will gain hands-on experience in generative AI, exploring its core principles and functionality, with real-world applications across industries.

Through this initiative, participants will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills, preparing them for an AI-driven workforce and digital economy.

The statement read, “Career Essentials in Generative AI programme is open to post-secondary learners, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and National Youth Service Corps members.

“Participants will receive a personalised invite link to access the training, allowing them to engage in self-paced learning with structured guidance.”

Speaking on the initiative, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, Ugonna Achebe, said, “Technology is reshaping the way we work, and AI is at the forefront of this transformation.

“By equipping young Nigerians with generative AI skills, we are not just preparing them for the future workforce; we are empowering them to be innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders in the digital age.

“Our partnership with Microsoft Philanthropies reflects our commitment to ensuring that Nigerian youth are actively engaged in the global AI revolution.”

This collaboration between JA Nigeria and Microsoft Philanthropies highlights a shared commitment to bridging the digital skills gap and empowering young people to thrive in an AI-driven economy.

By providing access to foundational and practical AI knowledge, this programme will help participants gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities to excel in the future of work.
