Troops recover weapons, rescue hostages in North West


The Nigerian Army said troops deployed across various parts of Zamfara and Katsina states, acting on intelligence, successfully intercepted and thwarted terrorists’ activities, recovered weapons and rescued hostages.

This was contained in a statement posted on its WhatsApp and Instagram account.

According to the statement, troops in Zamfara State on October 1 responded to a road blockade by terrorists along the Jambako-Faru Road in Maradun Local Government Area.

A fierce gunfight ensued, forcing the terrorists to flee, abandoning an AK-47 rifle loaded with 7.62mm (special) ammunition.

In another encounter at Gidan Isa village in Isa Local Government Area, troops in a shootout overwhelmed terrorists trying to cross the Marnona-Gudunmi-Isa Road.

After the clash, troops recovered a significant quantity of ammunition, including 297 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) rounds, 23 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, two AK-47 rifle magazines, a motorcycle and a mobile phone.

The statement added: “In another operation in Katsina State, troops responded to an attack on Damari village in Dandume Local Government Area, where terrorists had abducted three women.

“After a swift pursuit, all the victims were successfully rescued and reunited with their families.”
