NMDPRA grants Falcon 25-year gas distribution licence

The Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency has granted Falcon Corporation Limited a 25-year Gas Distribution Licence.

A statement by the firm’s Managing Director, Prof Joe Ezigbo, said the licence confers Falcon Corporation with the exclusivity right to gas distribution within the Ikorodu Industrial Zone.

Ezigbo added that the GDL marks a significant regulatory approval strengthening its role in the domestic gas market.

“This milestone enables us to expand our gas distribution operations, ensuring a more sustainable and efficient supply of natural gas to industries, businesses, and residential consumers,” he maintained.

According to him, the gas distribution licence is in line with Section 148 of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, which mandates the NMDPRA to issue licenses to qualified individuals and organisations, stating that the move is part of the government’s efforts to implement the PIA and Gas Distribution Regulations of 2023.

“The initiative is also expected to open up opportunities across several key sectors, including energy-intensive industries, power generation, clean cooking initiative, gas reticulation, compressed natural gas mobility, energy parks, and special economic zones,” he disclosed.

The Falcon Corporation managing director maintained that natural gas plays a transformative role in fostering industrialisation, creating employment opportunities, and generating revenue for sustainable national development.

He said a thriving domestic gas market is crucial to achieving the government’s ambitions under the Decade of Gas Initiative.

“Falcon Corporation Limited GDL is expected to promote accessibility and availability of gas, encourage infrastructure development, crash the cost of production, aid the influx of industries to Ikorodu industrial Zone, and enhance energy security for all Nigerians.

“We are a leading indigenous and integrated gas value chain company with expertise in delivering world-class energy solutions across the midstream and downstream sectors of the industry,” he added.

He noted that Falcon has built and sustained various strategic partnerships across the gas industry segments for the exploration and actualisation of opportunities by way of the development of piped gas infrastructure, sourcing, and supply of natural gas to industries within various zones in the country and the storage, sale, and distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
