Group Faults Alia On Security Situation In Benue

The Forum of Tyoshin Academics (FoTA) in the Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State yesterday decried the increased violence in the area.

The group said the resurgence of attacks in the council contradicted Governor Hyacinth Alia’s claim that enduring peace had been restored in parts of the state.

In a statement, National President Patrick Ukase and Publicity Secretary John Ajai lamented a spate of killings in Gwer West and Makurdi local government areas, which they said are under siege.

They were reacting to the governor’s comments at a church gathering, where he said since the inception of his administration, reported cases of killings in Gwer-West, Logo, Aliade, and Guma had ceased.

The group said: “The Tyoshin people of GwerWest and Makurdi LGAs remain under siege, as our people continue to endure brutal attacks, maiming, and killings at the hands of armed Fulani herders.

“These assailants have not only maintained their violent activities but have expanded their reach into new territories.”
