Residents Feeling Impact Of Our Fight Against Terrorism, Banditry –Military

The Nigerian Army has said that the war against terrorism and banditry in the Northwest is gradually and steadily being won by its troops. The Commander of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, stated this at the West African Social Action (WASA) 2024 held at the weekend in Sokoto.

According to him, the fight against bandits has led to the elimination of many bandit leaders. Ajose attributed the recent successes to the strategic deployment of the VII Special Forces Battalion of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to Gudu, as well as the new air assets of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other combat support units playing the role of force multiplier in the operations in Sokoto State.

The army chief said the successes achieved in the fight against terrorism and banditry in the region had boosted the confidence of the local people in the army. Ajose emphasized the importance of vigilance and security awareness and urged the troops to remain professional and disciplined.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu noted the progress in combating the security challenges facing the North West. Governor Aliyu commended the troops for their dedicated fight against banditry and other criminal activities in the region.

Premier Aliyu, represented by his Special Adviser on Career and Security, Ahmed Usman, confirmed the elimination of bandits and the destruction of their camps in the state. WASA is an exercise that promotes interaction and camaraderie among officers, soldiers and their families.

Mr. Ajose said the event would further strengthen the relationship between officers, soldiers and citizens through social interaction and showcasing cultural activities. According to him, the event dates back to 1901 when Nigeria was incorporated into the West African Frontier Force.
