Businesses now prioritise cybersecurity over cost-cutting – GSMA

A new report from GSMA Intelligence revealed that enterprises are increasingly focusing on revenue growth and cybersecurity as part of their digital transformation strategies.

According to the research titled “The Rise of Digital Industries: Navigating Enterprise Needs, Investments, and Supplier Decisions,” 60 per cent of businesses now prioritise enhancing customer experience, improving competitive positioning, and driving revenue growth over cost-cutting objectives.

The telecom body highlighted a significant shift in how companies approach their digital transformation journeys, with a growing emphasis on securing their digital assets and maintaining business continuity amid rising cyber threats.

Moreover, the GSMA report underscored a strong investment trend, with companies planning to allocate an increasing share of their revenue to digital technologies over the next six years.

Enterprises surveyed are projected to invest 9 per cent of their revenue during 2024-2026, with this figure expected to rise to 11 per cent by 2027-2030, indicating a growing commitment to digital innovation and infrastructure.

As enterprises accelerate their digital transformation journeys, they are opting to work with a broad range of suppliers to meet their technology needs.

The research showed a preference for generalist suppliers—such as hyperscalers and telecom network/equipment vendors—that offer nearly full-stack solutions.

The Head of Research at GSMAi, Pablo Iacopino, stated, “Enterprises of all sizes are eager to advance their digital transformation and are making the necessary investment. As a result, supplier competition is fierce.

“Telcos need to go beyond just providing network services since enterprises are increasingly looking for partners who can help them throughout their full digital transformation journeys, combining technologies such as 5G, AI, IoT, and cloud to improve efficiency and security and drive revenues.

“The cost of implementation and the complexity of tech integration are the top two deployment challenges faced by enterprises. This means the role of tech orchestrator will become even more important and in demand in the future, which presents new opportunities for multi-service suppliers.”
