Citibank Nigeria Limited has marked its 40th anniversary, celebrating decades in the financial sector.

In a statement issued to The PUNCH on Sunday, the bank highlighted its journey from its foundation as Nigeria International Bank Limited to becoming a player in Nigeria’s banking landscape.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Shamsuddeen Usman, said, “Citi has grown steadily, adapting to the evolving needs of its clients, embraced digital transformation, and expanded its services to meet the demands of a dynamic world.”

Also, the Middle East and Africa Head for Citi, Ebru Pakcan, described Nigeria as a market for the bank.

She said, “Nigeria is a key market to watch, with enormous potential and an exciting investment proposition. For Citi, helping our clients navigate the challenges and embrace the opportunities of our rapidly changing world is fundamental to our mission of enabling growth and economic progress.”

Citibank Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Nneka Enwereji, reflected on the bank’s legacy, stating, “The past 40 years have been an incredible journey. We have navigated economic shifts, technological advancements, and unprecedented global events.”

The statement further noted that Citi pioneered initiatives in Nigeria, including the introduction of electronic banking, real-time online banking, and payment modernisation tools.

The bank reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation and embracing technological advancements to continue driving growth and economic progress in Nigeria.

The PUNCH reported that Stanbic IBTC Bank, Citibank Nigeria, and Rand Merchant Bank led the pack in the facilitation of US$1.09bn capital importation into Nigeria in the fourth quarter of 2023.
