Finance ministry inaugurates anti-corruption unit committee

The Federal Ministry of Finance has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit Committee to enhance transparency and accountability within the public service.

This was according to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, on Monday.

The statement read, “The Federal Ministry of Finance has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the public service with the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit Committee.”

Speaking at the event in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Lydia Jafiya, described the initiative as a vital step towards fostering ethical conduct and good governance, according to the statement.

She emphasised that the fight against corruption required a collective effort and called on all staff members to support the committee’s work.

She assured the committee of her full support in achieving its mandate of promoting transparency and ensuring adherence to the rule of law in the Ministry’s activities.

In the statement, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr Musa Aliyu, noted that ACTU, an initiative approved by the Federal Government, serves as an internal mechanism to prevent corruption in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, aligning with global best practices for institution building and governance enhancement.

Aliyu commended Jafiya for her leadership and described the committee as an essential tool for ensuring the Ministry manages the nation’s finances transparently and efficiently in line with Nigeria’s developmental priorities.

In her remarks, the Ministry’s Director of Special Duties, Mrs Egundebi Oluwayemisi, congratulated the newly inaugurated committee members.

She highlighted the need for active participation from all Ministry staff to ensure the success of the ACTU initiative.

Abubakar Othman, Chairman of the Ministry’s ACTU Committee, pledged the committee’s commitment to strengthening internal controls and sensitising staff to foster a culture of integrity and accountability.

The ACTU Committee, inaugurated as part of the Ministry’s anti-corruption framework, is tasked with promoting transparency, upholding accountability, and ensuring ethical governance practices.
