2027: Kano Will Support Tinubu

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Kano, Reno Omokri, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s supporters to treat former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with respect noting that Kano State will support Tinubu’s reelection come 2027.

Omokri made the appeal following the defection of Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria’s People Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Monday, Omokri described Kwankwaso as a “formidable politician” who has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s democratic development.

He stressed that opposition remains vital for a healthy political system while cautioning President Tinubu’s supporters against engaging in insults or hostile rhetoric, urging them instead to demonstrate maturity and decorum.

“I appeal to everybody who supports President Bola Tinubu to treat Mallam Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso with courtesy, as he looks set to join another opposition party.

“You are not from a low political culture of insults, abuse, and boorish behaviour. We know those who behave like that. Do not descend to their level,” he said

Omokri argued that respectful engagement by the President’s supporters could influence opposition figures and voters, particularly in Kano State, to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to him, backing the President does not require membership in the ruling party but a commitment to national stability and progress.

Highlighting ongoing federal projects, Omokri said the Tinubu administration has delivered key infrastructure initiatives in Kano, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, rail development projects, and major road constructions.

He noted that federal allocations to the state have also increased significantly under the current administration.

Omokri urged political actors to prioritise unity and constructive engagement, rather than hostility, as Nigeria prepares for the next electoral cycle.
